ONE LOVE SIGN

WEST HOLLYWOOD, 2020

PROJECT
To celebrate Bob Marley’s 75th birthday during Grammy Week 2020, 1 Hotel commissioned a sculptural landmark carved out of Aleppo Pine complimented by the music legend’s ephemeral lyrics. To create the sculpture we sourced a fallen Aleppo Pine from Studio City. The project was a combination of intricate CNC programming, old fashioned woodworking, and innovative structural design to make the letters appear as if they were floating over the lush planter bed.

ALEPPO PINE
Aleppo Pine has its roots in the Mediterranean and Northern Africa and is known for its fine lumber, helping to build the first known civilizations. The tree was brought to the US in the late 1600’s as an ornamental tree. However, the Ancient Greeks held the tree to higher regard, sacrificing Aleppo to the god Attis. While we may not hold the tree in exactly the same fervor, we see the excellent outdoor applications of this wood. A resinous, hard pine, Aleppo has great resistance to pests and decay. Planter beds, fencing, timber and log benches/stools, and exterior sculptural pieces will stand the test of time. Aleppo’s sweeping resin swirls will capture your eye but are muted enough to prove elegant.
